Park Güell: Güell Park was designed by Antonio Gaudí; it is the most famous park in Barcelona, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Park itself has been the topic of conversation from all types of praise and criticism, including comments such as "outrageous modernism", "surrealistic island", and "nightmare expressionist park". First it was a private estate, but then in 1922 it became a public park. At the main entrance to the park and on the stairway leading to the Hundred Columns Room are many structures where Gaudi obviously let him imagination run wild. Park de la Ciudadella: Park de la Cuidadella is the largest and most spectacular park in Barcelona. It has 130 hectares of woodland that form a green, tree-clad (more than 15.000 trees) island in the middle of an asphalt sea. You may enter it through any of the fine gateways. These are situated in the Plaza de la Independencia, the Calle de Alcalá, the Calle de O'Donnell, and the Calle de Alfonso XII. White stone figures of the Kings and Queen of Spain peer out from the avenues of disdainful tees and thick undergrowth, and just inside the park there is a large artificial lake where you can hire rowing boats. The park in addition has its rose garden, as well as the Cecilio Rodríguez gardens and many pleasant sheltered nooks where strollers can enjoy a little solitude. In the center of the park there are two buildings known as the Palacio de Velázquez and Palacio de Cristal, where art exhibitions are now and then held. Park Laberint: This is a labyrinth park and was built in 1791 on different levels with stairways, pavilions and richly ornamented railings. Adorning the gardens is a range of statues of legendary figures. Park Guinardó Guinardó Park evidently resembles a forest and has a complex landscape leaning towards the four fundamental points. Jardins del Palau Reial de Pedralbes The gardens of the Pedralbes Royal Palace form a geometrically designed classical-style park with beautiful flowerbeds and large trees from the original royal estate. Park Espanya Industrial The Spanish Industrial park is located on the west side of Estació de Sants. There are many other parks in Barcelona, such as: - Jardins i roserar de Cervantes. - Park Clot. - Park Estació del Nord. - Park Joan Miró. On the hill of Montjuïc, there are two parks offer a pleasant change of pace: the Jardins Mossèn Costa i Llobera, with 150 varieties of cacti of American origin and more than 200 varieties of succulent plants; and the Jardins Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer, where over 100,000 plants bloom throughout the year. |
